        1. On a machine where you're already logged in to Claude Code with your Max account, run:

        2. A browser opens and shows an auth code with text like "Authentication Code — Paste into Claude Code". This is NOT the token. Copy that auth code.

        3. Switch back to the terminal where claude setup-token is still running and waiting. Paste the auth code there and press Enter.

        4. The terminal will now print a much longer string on the next line — usually 100+ characters, often starting with a recognizable prefix. That is the subscription token.
